I’ve had my five year journal for at least ten years. I seem to only be able to do a month at a time, and then I give up. My life is so boring. This is a good impetus to try and fill it up.

I love this so much -- especially the Dark Crystal drawing. My favourite movie.

Great movies we showed our children at too young an age would be a good resource/list! For us it was “The Stranger” when he was about 8 years old. For me personally it was “Papillon” at about 10 years old. Terrifying!

I had never heard of a five year journal and it sounds like a really good practice!! I’m gonna get myself one :)

Also, the illustration assignment feels 💘💘

I’ve started illustrating some images that come up in somatic therapy and plan on sharing them at some point. The line between private and public feels blurry for me too, sometimes...

I adore these drawings and the idea of illustrating a diary. So wonderful, thank you!

A diary can be such a powerful personal resource. We forget so much of our own past. Thanks for sharing your wonderful illustrations.

I’m going to start one of these and am going to give one to my mom. Reminds me of my photo app showing all the photos I’ve taken on a particular day, but inside my brain. I tried a version of this before but it was a question to answer a day over 3 years and you were supposed to answer with your partner , and doing that every day was not going to happen!

I got a 5-year gratitude journal for a positive psychology class in college, and kept up really nicely for 4 years until I moved to a new state and fell off the wagon. Oops!

I remember when you first began posting on that 5 year Instagram - I was so inspired that I bound my own journal that week! I intended to illustrate a moment from each day (which I was not able to keep up with). I’m sort of relieved to hear you weren’t churning out illos everyday, after all. 😅

But on the topic of those drawings - they are so, so exquisite and expressive, and some of my very favorites you’ve ever shared with us. I’ve long wondered - are those all traditional media such as ink/watercolor and brush? Or have you done any on the iPad? The look of them just sets my brain ablaze, I adore them!

I started my most recent five-year journal on January 1st, 2020. I'm always amused by how some silly things line up (I've made a tomato pie on one particular date for the last three years!), and less amused by how many entries reference how tired I am. This five-year span will be something -- it's covering my son's first year of kindergarten, and my daughter's last year of high school. 😲

Was just talking to a friend about wanting to journal. A 5 year journal seems like fun. Thanks for sharing.

Just found my Shopsin 5-yr in a box yesterday! Started in 2016, all sorts of mixed up. Focusing the day’s report like you have versus trying to cram in every detail in super tiny writing will probably help me keep it up... 🫠 we shall see!
