This was a nice update. It felt like hearing from a friend, and I like that.
The world is so heavy right now. It felt nice to read something light (the dread of the world we are all collectively experiencing is enough; taking moments to communicate beyond that is a gift to our minds and hearts). I hope you enjoy your well earned summer break!
I’m digging slow poke. I like that email feels old fashioned and slow now, which is more the vibe I’m going for these days. I keep having to delete the social apps. Thanks Carson!
I like Slowpoke! I really enjoy narrative writing with creative twists, it's my favorite to write - so I love reading it from you. It's very, VERY hot in Texas. A friend in Seattle tried to complain to me this weekend about how hot he was and I told him to leave me alone. But I am sorry for the plants.
Ha ha, it makes me feel good to know that even someone like you can kick back for a while, Carson (I too am something of a must-be-working-on-something type).
My tomatoes loved the heat! It actually rained slightly this morning and I am loving the massive temperature drop today :) (Woodburn) I love the Egg Sisters and look forward to more. That man you're married to mentioned TOAFK and I wanted to say that the paintings you did for the murals in Missoula are in the hands of Emily J. now and will be ready in August. I picked madrone frames because of Bret Harte's poem "Madrono" and it makes a full circle of life, literature and art that is too long to explain here. I like Slowpoke and the Substack format for interaction, the last platform is okay but this just has a much friendlier vibe and interface. I would love to see more of your older and/or formative works alongside what you happen to be working on now or in the future.
Oh, when will life be perfect!? What a fantastic question. Its been hot here too and I am Very Much Done with that.
I have nothing profound to add, only that I just love Slowpoke so much. I find it to be absolutely exactly the right thing I am wanting to read or see, even as it is not quite easy to pin-down or describe. That may not be helpful to you at all, but I hope if is encouraging.
Also to say - I just so happened to be visiting my friend who lives in San Francisco on the night of your opening reception there, and it was so serendipitous and wonderful and you are lovely. - H.
Carson, it’s just so nice to hear from you like this, its so nice to have these little peeks into your life, they inspire and motivate me. So yeah, I’m loving slowpoke! I love the randomness of it, and the slow care you put into each one, it will be a beautiful patchwork quilt one day!
Hi Carson, it's nice to know you will be kicking back. This was a nice reminder to set up my hammock.
Hi! I love that lil brightly color patchwork squar you've got going on.
I'd love to see another long painting video of something from sketch to end!
Stay Hydrated,
Karlene
I’m really enjoying Slowpoke! Random topics, random moods, adolescent confessions, artist at work, even on a quilt.

❤️ yes to hammocks and yes to quilts.
Loving the way the scraps are coming together.
I am enjoying having slowpoke pop up in my inbox , it’s like a lovely walk with an old friend or something.

Living without deadlines. Yikes!!
What I know about that so far is..Stay curious. Since you are artist that’s already in your DNA!
Welcome to the best Summer so far!

More painting demos please!
It’s weird being between projects! I’m finding myself there right now in a sort of “adrift boat” state.
Trout Fishing in America! Sketches! Quilt scraps! More of all this, please - it's juuuuust right!
I'm in Vancouver and although I lamented the wetness of our spring, the electricity of the greens was truly unparalleled!
