Also, an inspiration to make a wattle fence with all the branches that keep falling to keep the hounds out of the tomatoes! Bloodhounds love tomatoes, especially the almost ripe ones you plan on picking in a day or two.
Thank you. We named all our first chickens Darlene because we couldn’t tell them apart - years later we have chickens we can tell apart but still call them all Darlene as it’s come to mean “hen we love” in our home. Animal therapy is real and good.
Thank you Carson. Nature and art now more essential than ever. As an illustrator, I've felt compelled to visually respond to these horrible events (and also social issues I believe in), but find I am becoming just exhausted doing so. How do we balance the work our gut-wrenched hearts prompt us to make, to the work we create with quiet hearts, our day-to-day passions and projects? Maybe some time you could share about your art activism, as you do such a great job of making authentic, beautiful statements.
Thanks for saying so and for this prompt. I would like to share about this. I think about it all the time and have a lot of complicated feelings about it.
The news was terribly sad that day. It seems these tragedies are treated like an inevitable part of our existence like tsunamis or volcanoes. I desperately hope that laws will change this time. You’re so right Carson, gardens and animals are always a comfort.
It’s true.
Thank you for this.

This is really grounding and soothing thank you for sharing!
Lovely.

Take care.
I did not know that! I make mine with prunings from apple trees.
Thank you for the quiet beauty to interrupt the cacophony of horribleness.

All of our Rhode Island Reds are named Charlie after “Charlie and Lola” by Lauren Child. We call them “the Charlies.”

Yes!
Thank you. This was much needed. “It’s okay to cry, you guys. It’s okay.” 🖤
And soothe it does. Thank you Carson
Thanks Carson. This felt like a hug all the way from Oregon.

This is just what I needed. Thank you. (And that chicken is so gorgeous - I might need to paint it.)
So many complex issues and emotions out in the world. So thankful for the plants and animals and their predictable surprises.
Such a gift! Thank you very much.
