Absolutely amazing ! Each summer my son wants to « create » a small city in the garden with his friends in our family house in le Tarn in the south of France. I’ll show him this video, it’s going to be very inspiring :)
I look forward to these posts each summer. How old were the kids this year? My son is 7 and this sounds like a literal dream for him. I grew up in Rainier OR and had a similar upbringing to what this camp provides. But I live in OC California now and my son’s ability to play like this is limited in the neighborhood we live in. Bums me out a bit.
It was a wide age range. Milo and his friends are going to be in 6th grade next year so the big kids were eleven or twelve and there were also kids as young as six. I think it’s generally hard for kids to play this way. You need a pretty big space, a lot of scrap wood and junk, and some very calm, trusting adults to shepherd them. You kind of need Andrew. But I do think with some energy most people could make something like this happen in their town.
What a fun and super creative tradition! Thank you for the video tour. You have the perfect yard for creating an imaginary world. It's like a mini Edgefield with fun things around every corner.
This is pure creative, imaginative joy! I think one of the reasons I became an elementary school teacher is so that I could continue being a grown up kid in this sort of way with my students. I guess the adult version of this is the LARP community which I wholeheartedly support.
By the way, Carson, I love that at every place you visited in your video you take the time to mention that the spot is closed…..made me chortle every time.
And, for what it’s worth, having the right hat is a campaign I can get behind.
What a wonderful project!

My inner child was so happy visiting Mishatopia with you, thanks for sharing ♥️
Spectacular.
Ok but Lynlee needs to definitely run a Bigfoot and Meatballs food truck one day
This is so cool. That blue and purple and green seating situation is inspired. All children are artists.

I’m 42 and I need to come to this.

This is the kind of thing I would have loved so, so much as a kid and also now.
