Transmundane Tuesday
It’s the first Tuesday of the month, and I have good news for those of us trying to spend less time on Instagram. If you’d like to draw these prompts and share them right here with other Slowpoke subscribers, now you can! Substack just introduced a chat feature that makes it possible. Download the app if you haven’t already (it’s here) and find the chat icon at the bottom of the screen. Click on it, and you’ll find a thread where you can post your transmundane art. Ta da! And if you’d like to share it on Instagram too, that’s just fine. Tag it #armoredcatwithbeautifuleyes and #transmundanetuesdays.
By the way, these prompts fit nicely with the dual themes of this week’s newsletter: cats and medieval stuff.
Medieval Stuff
Do any of you guys play Illimat? For the uninitiated, this is a board game that The Decemberists and I made in collaboration with superstar game designer, Keith Baker. I created all the art and type for it. Much of the inspiration came from medieval playing cards.
I’m more proud of this game than I am of most things. There’s lots to tell about Illimat - how it came about and what went into the design of it - but I think I’ll save that for another day. It deserves its own post. In the meantime, as of today there’s a new expansion called the False Baron’s Set available for preorder, along with a set of greeting cards, a print, and a new bronze okus token. (IYKYK.) You can find it all here.
In Other News
I am making slow progress on the pictorial quilt I mentioned a few weeks back. It also has medieval vibes.
A Cat, As Promised
A few nights ago - on Halloween Eve as it happens - I was putting in my chickens and a little black cat followed me into the coop. She was scared and hungry but friendly so I brought her inside for the night to keep her safe from coyotes. Two days later, she’s still here. She has no collar and she isn’t microchipped. I haven’t had any luck finding her people. Unless someone claims her soon, I’m going to assume she is my witch’s familiar.
Stay tuned,
Carson
I love Illimat! I have a few friends that will play with me. Everyone else thinks its a cult. I don't care. I love saying "thou shan't sow the Fool of Summer into the Field of Autumn!" etc. The illustrations are endlessly enchanting. ordering my new badge now...
I ❤️ Illimat!! Pre-orders have been made!!
