I am speechless today, and very sad.
I recently started keeping a sketch-a-day one year diary. I recommend it. It’s been a good way to chronicle the week leading up to election day. Who knows what comes next, but I’m sure there will be no shortage of things to process in tiny, tortured muji pen drawings.
The highlight of my day was watching three kids get jacked on hot chocolate and dance around my living room to pop songs whose lyrics were rewritten with tween slang. It was really sweet and joyous. At one point I was like, “Wait! Wait! I know a good one!” and I put on Reelin’ in the rizz. They all listened blankly because they don’t know who Steely Dan is, and it totally killed the vibe. But you’ll probably like it.
I have no hot takes today. Only brainrot Steely Dan and love for anyone out there who needs it. Also a reminder that this poster that I made in 2016 in a similar moment of dismay is still for sale via le oui, and all proceeds from it go straight to the ACLU.
Okay. If you happen to be in the Seattle area maybe I’ll see you this Friday at Elliott Bay Books. I’ll be talking about One Week in January with Jon Mooallem, who is one of my favorite people.

Tiny tortured muji pen drawings sounding verry therapeutic right now. My partner is the bassist of Hamilton Ontario’s premier Steely Dan cover band so we throughly enjoy brainrot reelin in the years 🤝🤝
Feeling numb in Vermont. Thank you for posting. 💙💙💙
