February 1st is Hourly Comic Day. Cartoonists (and other people who like to draw) document their day with “hourlies” and post them online, typically in real time, or close to it. I’ve done it for the past five years. It is an art-making experience like no other: exhilarating, grueling, disorienting. It’s hard to make time in a day to do things worthy of drawing and also draw them. If you are a slow-moving perfectionist like myself, and you stop to revise or overthink, you will find yourself hours behind schedule and scrambling to catch up (in a way that feels worthy of sharing online with lots of strangers). I love Hourly Comic Day / I hate Hourly Comic Day.
You can see more hourlies at #hourlycomicday.
Mine from previous years are archived as highlights on my instagram.
Here are a few people I love to follow along with on HCD:
I love the magical mundanity of your hourly comic days Carson, the little becomes the big through each square. Thanks for doing these each year 🖤 p.s I think your illustrations are my favourite use of procreate.
Love the art and creativity! :)
